THE DECODING: 2024

An exploration of interoception, or the lack of it. Unable to decode the messages from my brain, I visualised the mess and created this piece with discarded glue gun sticks. Included are spoons (used to measure a neurodivergent person’s energy) and wooden “fucks”. Essentially trying to map how many fucks I have left to give, but intertwined with other overwhelming elements.

Creating Spaces - June+July 2023

Through playful and kitsch forms in concrete, foam, jesmonite and objects destined for the bin I’m currently exploring neurodiversity, domestic abuse and human rights. A phrase and poem that has motivated me for years is ‘Take Up Space’ by Vanessa Kisuule, and I hope that my artworks and words inspire others to do the same, or at least just bring some joy.
Some series which developed in 2023 are :

BECAUSE I CAN

Large pieces made from expanding foam, concrete, acrylic and found objects. Taking up space, and doing it all for no other reason than because I can.

MOLEHILLS

Small pieces which look rather like cakes, but really they were inspired by seeing the molehills at Miserden House. I loved their disruption in a well-kept lawn, and wanted to do some disrupting too.

WTFIT

Small pieces made from jesmonite and expanding foam, purely for the love of it. I also love the feel of jesmonite… It’s almost milky and silky. Delicious. And I love gold, so they’re all made with just fun.

My Body In My Hands

May 2023 : an exhibition of over 100 artists' responses to #mybodyinmyhands works encompassing bodily experience and accompanying texts.

My Body in My Hands is a physical exhibition following artist Sam Lucas's call out on Instagram @theweightofbeing to make a piece of work in any medium to describe how it feels to be in your body and post a photo of the work in the hand. The ongoing project has produced a conceptually broad and exciting response with over 100 artists participating in the exhibition at SVA Stroud and over 300 in the online gallery. Materially wide open, the works range from ceramics, found objects, paper, natural materials and human matter to short videos.

Just Peas

Produced for “Parrots: A Flagrant Exhibition of Mimicry” Pop-up DIY Exhibition and Event - December 2022

It spins on a disco ball rotator, over a sort of nest of feathers and printed stuff on tracing paper. It’s a sort of mimicry of itself.

This DIY, artist led one-off exhibition took place in Bedford Street, as a spontaneous event celebrating the idea from Adam White. You can see more information on the SVA website.

Breathing in the moon is necessary sometimes

Studio 18 July 2021

"Breathing in the moon is necessary sometimes" is a piece made with yearning for air and space. Sometimes when things are hard and there's a lot to process, we need something simple and quiet, like swinging in a jar of lichen and writing haikus.

Quicksand, static here
Breathe the moon, said quietly,
Surrender she said.

Shifts overhead but
Static inside, over there
Waits for her to come.

Seemingly free but
Rarely felt, the moon appears
To say "go, dear one".

Listen in that space
It will come quietly and
Then show itself bright.

Break those patterns free
Hear the air, lean heavily
The breeze will hold you.

Constant

exhibited at Studio 18 : 2020

Mixed media series originally for a 2017 exhibition based on the "Metamorphosis of Motherhood", and re-curated in 2020. Exhibited with liquid light photography work.

Doing this series was a powerful shift for me to express what I had blocked for many years, and was surprisingly empowering. Looking back, I was expressing the impact and subtlety of gaslighting and the other variety of ways that some have power over others.

Bleary start : my grandmother's ashes (who died at the beginning of my pregnancy) and the ultrasound print.

0-3 months : the poignant sofa where I spent most of the first 3 months nursing.

Loss : the beauty of finding a spot that reflects your state of mind.

Evolving : the stages of grief and closure.

Repairing : inspired by Kintsugi, the art of repairing with gold, and finding the beauty in damage.
